Registration Is Now Open for Our StART Access Program!

We Are Statement Arts.

In 2019, only 10% of NYC high schools provided instruction in all four arts disciplines (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts), and only 37% of high schools had theater programs. Statement Arts (StART) aims to fill these major gaps in arts education as well as college guidance that exist in the NYC public school system. StART is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the creative visual and performing arts to young people from under-resourced, low-income communities. We channel creativity to educate, enhance intellectual performance, empower, and guide young people. StART is committed to giving our students an intercultural, interdisciplinary arts experience to which they would not otherwise have access. Our goal is to help our students make their own unique STATEMENTS to the world by exploring what is possible through the arts. All of our programs are free for our participants.

StART Making A Difference.

Our Programs

Statement Arts provides wrap-around programming that begins for our students in 3rd grade, and extends into and beyond college. By connecting our youth with a network of peers for support, a pathway to applying to college, and career readiness, we offer a large scope of programming where other arts-focused organizations fall short.

  • StART Young Music & Theatre

StART Young is a free summer performing arts program in Washington Heights held in two sessions for students from grades 3 - 11.

  • StART Dreaming College Readiness

There are two components to StART Dreaming that both focus on cultivating creative minds and ensuring access to quality higher education to high school seniors throughout the college application process.

  • StART Access Career Development

The StART Access Program is a free program designed to provide young adults with workshops and opportunities in artistic development, career management and performance projects.

Each program ends with inviting communities to a live, public performance.

OUR MISSION

Statement Arts believes in the power of an integrated arts education to cultivate the next generation of leaders who can inspire social and cultural change. Our holistic approach supports young people and offers the space for them to find their voices and add their statements to the world.

We fill a critical gap in Arts Education and College Readiness.

We believe preparing leaders in the arts is a crucial component to a well-rounded education that NYC public schools are not adequately providing.

According to the NYC Department of Education Arts in Schools Report 2017-2018, only 10% of NYC High Schools provided all four arts disciplines: Theater, Dance, Visual Art, and Music.

In 2021, it was only 5%.
