Become a StART Mentor and help a great kid get into college.

Do you want to help level the educational playing field by helping a high school senior get into college?

Read below on how to become a mentor for Fall 2025.

What’s Expected As A Mentor

Even if you went to college decades ago, your support and guidance can make the difference that changes the life of a terrific kid. If applying for college feels like a lot to you (and a little overwhelming) you can imagine how daunting this can feel for a 17 year old, trying to tackle this on their own. Don’t worry. We are here to show you what to do. Statement Arts has gotten almost 200 of our kids into college since 2010.

Starting in August 2025, we will meet as a group on in person and on Zoom. Each mentor will be assigned at least 1 Statement Arts student. Every week you will meet with your mentee and together you will fill out the applications for the colleges they are interested in attending. Most colleges will be using the COMMON APP and some of our students will be applying to the City University of New York (CUNY) which is accessible using the CUNY Portal. We will provide you with the guidance and information needed to support your student and will be available for any questions.

We have an experienced college financial aid team to answer any questions and provide direct support for FAFSA submissions.

On average, our mentors donate 25 hours or more to this program.

Past mentors have told us what a rewarding experience this had been for them.
